How Are You Preparing Your Family Against The Enemy?

I was recently asked this question of a friend and Three things immediately came to mind. As I was typing them out I thought I should share them here as well.

I’d love for you to answer this question, too.

How are you preparing your family agains the enemy?

A couple of months ago, we had a long Sunday focus on spiritual preparedness and how that’s more important than temporal preparedness. I gave them the questions: Why is spiritual preparedness important and how can we be spiritually prepared? And then I let them go think about it, pray about it and find scriptures. Then I talked with them individually so that they didn’t just lean on their sibling. I was beyond impressed with what they came up with. And now, spiritual preparedness is a regular conversation.

As a mom, I’m looking at every room in my house and asking “what needs to be in this space to make it the sanctuary of faith president Nelson promises?” And we’re making changes. More pictures of the Savior and temples, scriptures, quotes and questions on our backdoor to look at when you leave, places for prayer, reading and meditation.

We’ve also taught our kids that when they see, experience or witness something dark, inappropriate or uncomfortable to label that what it is “that’s the adversary working on cutting down my testimony” and then they come tell us. We took the pattern from teaching kids the process if they see pornography and realized that there is a pattern that can be followed for all of satans tactics. They see it, stop it, call it what it is, and come and find us to tell us about it so we can talk it through.  If they’re away from us they can choose to tell a trusted adult or ask for a phone to give us a call. This is especially important now that they’re going to school a couple of days a week.
